The African Climate Innovation Challenge 2025 has officially selected five outstanding youth-led startups whose solutions demonstrate the creativity and determination driving climate action across the continent. These teams have shown strong potential to address environmental challenges through practical innovation grounded in local knowledge and community needs.

This year’s winners represent breakthrough ideas in waste management, sustainable agriculture, circular economy systems, green construction, and eco-friendly packaging. Their work aligns with the purpose of ACIC, which is to support young African innovators developing climate solutions that can transform communities when provided with the right tools, coaching, and visibility.

 

Zuripacks, Kenya

Zuripacks is pioneering plant-based packaging designed to replace single-use plastics and reduce pollution in fast-growing urban areas. Their biodegradable materials are helping communities and businesses transition toward cleaner and healthier consumption models. The team has demonstrated strong product innovation and a clear path toward scale, making them a standout contributor to circular economy solutions in East Africa.

Rôbalôtô, Togo

Rôbalôtô is strengthening environmental education and climate awareness through an engaging school-based recycling system that encourages children to exchange plastic waste for rewards. The initiative reduces plastic pollution and builds a habit of responsible living among young learners. Rôbalôtô shows that climate solutions can grow from simple ideas that influence behavior at scale.

Jafife, Morocco

Jafife is supporting food security through the development of smart solar dryers that protect farmers from post-harvest losses. Their technology extends the shelf life of produce, reduces waste, and promotes climate-resilient farming in rural areas. Jafife’s work provides a practical pathway for communities to adapt to changing weather patterns while improving incomes.

Trashcoin, Nigeria

Trashcoin is creating new value from plastic waste by using a digital rewards platform that motivates households and young people to recover plastics from their environment. Their approach improves waste collection, supports small-scale recyclers, and strengthens community participation in climate action. Trashcoin is building a model that blends technology, youth engagement, and environmental responsibility.

Helton Traders, Uganda

Helton Traders turns plastic waste into durable construction materials that support greener cities and reduce pressure on landfills. Their products provide affordable and sustainable alternatives to traditional building materials while promoting responsible waste management. The team’s innovation demonstrates how climate solutions can create jobs, strengthen local economies, and reduce pollution at the same time.

These five winning teams reflect the strength of African youth innovation and the powerful role young entrepreneurs play in shaping sustainable futures for their communities. Through ACIC, each team will receive coaching, funding, and the long-term support needed to expand their solutions and increase their impact.

As the challenge continues to grow, it strengthens a wider ecosystem of African climate innovators who are creating change from the ground up. The 2025 winners now join this growing network and will help lead the next wave of climate action on the continent.
